As the first Porsche sports car to carry more power than a contemporary 911, the 981 Cayman GT4 presented a landmark moment in Porsche history. The GT4 sold out at dealers before it was even officially announced. When the announcement did come, there was much to excite keen drivers. Here was a car blessed with ultimate mid-engine balance, in a chassis packed with cutting-edge engineering developed for the 911 GT3 at the time.
Central to the GT4 package is the 3.8-litre flat six engine from the 911 Carrera S, with a six-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential to answer all those who curse the day that GT3s lost their manual shift. The track is wider, and ride height is lower. Suspension is 911 derived, with GT3 front brakes and aerodynamic downforce front and rear, thanks to an (adjustable) aerodynamic bodywork package.
