Classic Porsche Service at JZM Porsche
Our classic Porsche servicing centres around the 911, 930, 964 and 993’s because we have the knowledge and the kit. When JZM started as Machtech™ – servicing and tuning 911 G-Series’ in 1976, we worked on customer’s cars in the week and raced on track at the weekend. Back then we were trained by the guys who made the car systems, and still have that equipment today. Inside every good mechanic and technician is an engineer interested in how things work, add four decades of experience and you’ll appreciate the competence we have to fix and service classic Porsche correctly.

Classic Porsche workshop equipment
JZM have the Porsche diagnostic equipment others just don’t. Machtech Tuning were Bosch service agent specialists trained in Bosch D-Jetronic, K-Jetronic, then KE-, L-, LE-, LH- and Mono-Jetronic systems. In 1973 Steve McHale became the first of very few Bosch Service Master Technicians (Gold Standard) and over the years actively exchanged data with Porsche HQ Reading on various specialist issues.
We have Bosch Motronic Testers with multimeter, oscilloscope, gas meter, and the complete set of original Porsche microfiche guides. It’s quite possibly the most extensive Porsche workshop library in the UK. PIWIS Ⅰ and Ⅱ have been superseded and incorporated in to PIWIS Ⅲ. The workshop is comprehensively kitted out from 1964 to the present day for servicing, maintenance and tuning Porsche. The older diagnostic tools and the knowledge to use them enables us to diagnose problems with any classic air-cooled and water-cooled Porsche.
JZM were the first of very few UK independent Porsche specialists to be Porsche eXternal Network accredited. This guarantees a Porsche service at JZM is done to the same standard as Porsche main dealer, and some. We have a long history of sharing knowledge, making friends and partnerships with Porsche, Olaf Manthey, Ansgar Wiesen, Michael Roock, Manfred Freisinger and ProDrive to name a few. On the way we all learnt a thing or two, and the collaborations succeeded in fixing foibles and re-mapping 964’s, 993 Turbos, Turbo S and later 996’s.
Porsche engine and gearbox re-builds
Andy has dedicated 20 years to Porsche engine and gearbox re-builds, backed up Steve’s four decades of knowledge and experience. With our young Jedi studying the masters, this is as good as it gets in the UK. Properly done, engine and gearbox rebuilds will bring your Porsche’s performance back to brand new.
Importantly the parts required can only be evaluated once the engine is stripped, washed and measured. The labour required is more predictable and we’ll always do our candid best to put you in the ball park from day one. A classic Porsche engine rebuild by JZM, driven properly and treated well will be good for the next 100,000 miles plus. All JZM Porsche engine and gearbox re-builds are guaranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
JZM re-built a Carrera 3.2 Coupe engine with 680,000 kilometres on the clock. That’s around the world 17.6 times, if the roads were straight. The car’s owner drove 10,000km per month and had Porsche service it every 6 weeks. Revered Porsche guru Manfred Freisinger restored it and we did the engine and gearbox rebuild. A matching numbers Porsche that drives as good as new.
