Whilst only occurring every 10 years, the arrival of a new ‘anniversary edition’ 911 is always something to look forward to.All 1,963 examples of the 911 40th Anniversary were finished in GT Silver Metallic (a colour which to date, had only previously featured on the Carrera GT) and featured the naturally aspirated, rear-wheel drive, narrow-body platform, paired with a variety of aesthetic enhancements and performance upgrades. These included but are not limited to the highly desirable X51 engine package, natural full-leather interior, limited-slip differential, polished 18” Carrera II lightweight wheels, ‘Turbo’ style front bumper with painted air-inlets, aluminium-trim rings on the instrument cluster, a colour coded centre console and the M030 suspension package. Despite these options appearing on the price list of regular 996’s, the anniversary edition 911 models always seem to represent something that equates to more than the sum of their respective parts to provide an exceptionally special driving experience.
This example is number 1,477 and represents somewhat of a rare opportunity as it has covered only 17,437 miles via just 2 registered keepers. Despite the super low mileage covered on this example (an average of just over 1,000 miles a year), anyone in the know (or with access to Google) will be able to reveal the Achilles' heel of non GT/Turbo 996 models, the three little letters “I M S”. The intermediate shaft bearing on Carrera models is a known weak-spot in an otherwise robust mechanical package. Without prior indication or warning this component can fail causing irreversible and significant damage to the engine. As a preventative measure, the current owner took the decision for us to upgrade the standard bearing to a direct engine oil fed bearing alternative. This provides the bearing with high pressure engine oil at all times throughout the rev range, therefore totally eliminating the potential failure. Accompanied by a detailed and complete service history (carried out exclusively via JZM and OPCs) and supplied with our 12 month JZM warranty, this is one 996 that is ready to be driven and enjoyed with total peace of mind!
